What is
community
energy?

Locally generated

Energy produced by and for local people — rooftop solar, small wind, tidal — not distant corporations.

Carbon reduction

Every kilowatt-hour generated locally displaces fossil fuels and cuts the carbon footprint of our streets.

Reinvested revenue

Surpluses go back into the community — funding more generation, reducing bills, supporting residents.

Democratised ownership

Community Benefit Societies put control in local hands, reshaping who owns and profits from energy.

02

Our aim

HCE focuses on cutting carbon emissions via retrofitting buildings and generating renewable energy. Every pound of revenue gets reinvested back into the community to produce more clean energy — reshaping the economics of how power is made and owned.

We work with community centres to reduce their energy use and install rooftop solar. We're investigating solar on landfill sites to boost biodiversity, and exploring battery storage, small wind, tidal, and geothermal options.
